How Many Driver’s License Points will my Ticket Cost Me?

Your driver’s license risks being suspended or revoked if you “just pay” your Peculiar traffic ticket.  A brand new license starts out having twelve points.  You lose multiple points for each ticket you pay.  Convictions lead to suspensions, which lead to revocation.

Look to this definitive guide to Missouri’s driver’s license points system.  The Guide will allow you to determine how many points you stand to lose.

Driving While Suspended or Revoked in Peculiar Municipal Court

I single out the DWI/DUI and driving while suspended/revoked for good reason.  Driving while suspended/revoked traffic tickets are the second most serious traffic charge one can be accused of in municipal court (other than the DWI).  It is a “no brainer” in my opinion; you need a lawyer.  Please allow me to explain.  Peculiar Municipal Court ordinances (laws) pattern the statutes of Missouri.  Section 303.321 governs driving while suspended and revoked citations.

Is there a difference between driving while suspended or revoked?  The short answer is No.  The statutes and ordinances for violating these two traffic tickets are exactly the same.  I have never seen a punishment or cost difference between driving while suspended versus driving while revoked.  Where there is a difference is the prospects of reinstatement.  It is critical to your chances of success, punishment outlook, and money costs to get your driver’s license reinstated.  It is more difficult to reinstate a revoked driver’s license than a suspended driver’s license.  Therefore, if there is a difference, it exists in the reinstatement phase.

You will need a criminal defense lawyer to “fix” your Peculiar Mo driving while suspended traffic ticket.  This is because of the enhanced, serious consequences of the conviction.  Section 302.302 of the Missouri statutes dictates the driver’s license points system for Missouri.  A conviction for driving while suspended is a mandatory driver’s license suspension.  You do not want that.  Second, convictions for diving while suspended carry mandatory minimum jail sentences.  Multiple offenses are a felony.  You ignore these; you don’t get a lawyer, you go to jail.

Last, convictions for traffic tickets will raise your insurance rates.  These rises in rate greatly outpace the costs of hiring a lawyer, paying the fines and court costs.  I know the costs seem high; but the DWS traffic ticket can be resolved in Peculiar Municipal Court.  The same cannot be said for other courts.  Therefore, since you CAN fix the ticket in Peculiar; FIX the ticket in Peculiar.

Do I Need a Lawyer for a Peculiar Municipal Court?

We believe it is always better off to have an attorney for a Peculiar Municipal charge even though that attorney will charge you money up front.  In the long run, you will save vehicle insurance costs.   You will also get better employment opportunities in our opinion, and have less trouble with a clean driving record and a clean criminal record.

Attorneys can avoid jail time; keep matters off of your record, save you money, and heartache.  In many cases, you can avoid going to court entirely as you are paying an attorney to resolve your problems for you.

The disadvantages of hiring a lawyer for a Peculiar Municipal Court traffic ticket is that you must pay an attorney’s fee.  In the short term, this will cost you more money.  In the long term, the investment will likely save you money.

Can I Expect a Payment Plan for Peculiar Municipal Court?

Peculiar Municipal Court attorneys are unlikely to give a payment plan other than allowing you to pay money down until the attorney’s fee is paid in full.  This is because going to Peculiar Municipal Court will take as much time as resolving the case entirely.

It would be unfair to you to charge you for something you can do yourself.  Rather, save the money, handle the case entirely, and keep the difference.

Peculiar Municipal Court has approved forms of payment.  The Court does not prefer to do payment plans, and you are better off handling the case and paying it in full.

What Do I Need to Bring to Handle My Peculiar Municipal Case?

For traffic tickets you will be better off with a copy of your traffic ticket and the attorney’s fee.  Often times, the fine and court costs can be anticipated in advance and thus, can save you the inconvenience of multiple trips.

For driving while intoxicated or driving under the influence charges, bring all your paperwork into Hamilton & Associates and we will help you with that administrative task.  Later, we will have to get a certified copy of your driving record along with other materials for the court.

For a Peculiar Municipal Court driving while suspended or driving while revoked charge, you will need to seek reinstatement of your driver’s license.  This will save you significant money and increase the likelihood of a result that is in your best interest.

Our best advice is to call our law firm and speak with an attorney.  They will be in the best position to advise you as each circumstance is slightly different and therefore the advice we give will have to depend upon your unique situation.
